The recipe begins on a high note: Melting butter and marshmallows together over the stovetop. You then get to smash Oreos with a rolling pin until they’re crumbled into pieces. FYI, if you don’t have a rolling pin, a few gentle whacks with an empty wine bottle will do the trick. Although Crawford calls for traditional Oreos, I have a feeling these would work with any flavor you like (Chocolate Confetti Cake, anyone?).
After that, it’s smooth sailing: Just use a spatula to fold in your Rice Krispies cereal and the Oreo crumbles, then stir in thick swirls of peanut butter. Transfer the mixture into a greased baking sheet and press it down firmly, then let it set before slicing and serving. Obviously, the wait is the hardest part!
As always, Crawford shares helpful tips on her blog, including popping the pan in the freezer to cut down on setting time. More of a visual learner? The Reel is so helpful for seeing how it all comes together. And I’ve got to say, I love the simple style of her video.
Crawford hinted in the caption that this recipe was inspired by The Parent Trap (the Lindsay Lohan version); if you’re a millennial like me (or just a fan of the flick), you’ll definitely remember the scene when the twins share PB-smothered Oreos in their summer camp cabin. This recipe hits all the right notes for me, and it seems like Crawford’s Insta followers agree. “I feel cheated on all the times I haven’t but could’ve made my Rice Krispies with Oreos and PB,” lamented one commenter.
Well — there’s no time like the present! I know what I’ll be making this weekend. How about you?
