Second UN helicopter crashes in eastern DR Congo in five months | United Nations News

There have been no passengers on board and three crew members had been injured, the UN’s World Meals Programme mentioned.

A United Nations helicopter has crashed whereas flying over the jap Democratic Republic of the Congo’s North Kivu province, the World Meals Programme (WFP) mentioned.

The UN Humanitarian Air Service chopper, managed by the WFP, went down close to town of Goma on Friday morning.

There have been no passengers on board and three crew members had been injured, the help company instructed Reuters information company in an emailed response.

With out offering additional element, the WFP mentioned the reason for the crash was not but clear.

Eight peacekeepers had been killed in March when a UN helicopter crashed within the space of Tshanzu, in North Kivu.

That helicopter was on a reconnaissance mission when it went down amid clashes between the Congolese military and a insurgent group often known as the M23.

DRC’s military on the time mentioned the helicopter was shot down by rebels, which the M23 denied.

The UN peacekeeping mission MONUSCO didn’t state the reason for the crash and mentioned investigations had been below method.
