Hey hey hey!
The market keeps running and setting new highs. The printing presses have been busy creating new money and inflating the prices of everything. While its nice seeing so much green in the portfolio, it makes it hard to find deals at the moment. There are still some out there, but you got to look pretty hard.
March has been a fantastic month. The weather here in Ontario has been so nice, that we have started landscaping mid month. It was actually hard to believe it was March when it’s 17 degrees outside. I put the ice rink away in the backyard and we have been tossing around the frisbee and working on our moves in the trampoline.
I also finally got my new 180 gallon fish tank. 6ft x 2ft x 2ft. I was told it would be done in 2 weeks but it took about 2 months. Frustrating for sure, but they are super busy due to covid and the tank is just gorgeous. I have never had a brand new tank, so it was worth the wait. Now its time to find some more fish and fill’er up.
While we see the rest of the world opening up from covid, we are now going into our 3rd lock-down for another month. (But lets be honest we have been in lock-down for about a year now) Kinda typical right before holidays. Basically everything will remain open except restaurants, bars, patios, gyms etc. Absolutely brutal for them after being just told a week or 2 they could open up. The govt keeps dangling that carrot…. Just one more lock-down right?
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result…. Here we are doing the same thing again. Makes you wonder if they actually want this to end or just want to push this vaccine… Meanwhile Texas and Florida are living it up wide open.
Maybe its time we question and change politics…. They makes massive amounts of money, lock us down for a year and things have only gotten worse. Have they really earned their pay this past year? Cut their salary’s and I guarantee we would see results.
End of rant – I shouldn’t focus on what I can’t control but arg!

12 stocks Dripped in March – The snowball grows itself.
Not a massive growth rate but loving the looks of the new improved portfolio. IBM is still one I question, but I really believe they will turn around with the new ceo. Maybe that’s wishful thinking? The bpy loss was a big hit to these months due to potential buyout and sale, but I moved those proceeds to rit etf. Keeping it in the same sector but losing some yield. All good long term!

Our Drips (Dividend Reinvestment Program) added $25.62 to our yearly forward dividend’s this month.
I’ve decided to implement a new section at the end of every quarter. It will be a quarterly comparison year over year. So many people (myself included) focus on growing each month’s income. Mid quarter month’s are always horrible for us, but there’s not much I want to buy or values at the moment to pump it up. I want to focus on the income growing in general not necessarily every month. Comparing quarters may paint a more accurate picture.
Jan – End of March 2020 Dividend Income – $1,569.38
Jan – End of March 2021 Dividend Income – $1,876.71
% growth – 19.58% Sweet! A near 20% growth rate will ensure our retirement will be very healthy if we keep this up.
Private Investment Payment – $500.00
Nothing new here, just our regular monthly payment. (I don’t even have to edit this part every month) Steady Eddy…….
Solar Panel Income
In February (We always get paid a month later) our solar panel system generated 170 kWh. Since we bring in a fixed rate of 28.8 cents per kilowatt hour, Hydro One deposited $48.96 into our chequing account this month.
Last February the system generated $72.58. So we were lower year over year. First time we have been down this year but in February we had a tonne of snow and the panels were just covered. It’s to be expected.
Total Income for 2021 – $145.15
System Installed January 2018
Total System Cost ——–$32,396.46
Total Income Received ——–$7,631.96
Amount to Break even —- $-24,764.50
Total March 2021 Passive Income – $ 1,269.35
March 2020 Passive Income – $1,252.63
Total Passive Income Increase over last year. – $16.72
A very minor growth rate. All these sales and portfolio cleanup lowered our avg yield. Its all good as we move towards better growth and also dividend growth companies. Some of the sales I made have never raised the dividend for us and in the long term the portfolio will be better for it.
Totals For 2021
Dividends Year To Date Total – $1,876.71
Other Passive Income Year to date – $2,060.61
Total Passive Income for 2020 —– $3,937.32
Year End Goal – $17,390.71 ——– %22.64
Slightly behind but the summer months with the solar boost should propel things back on track!
March 2021 Purchases
We didn’t invest as much as I’d like to invest last month, but with some car repairs and a $1,500 fish tank, what can you do. =) Remember money isn’t just for saving. Go out there and spend it too, businesses could use our support.
Anyways we added 33 more share of Couche-tard. I still think this one is cheap and if it stays around $40 I’ll be adding more. This purchase adds a whopping $11.55 to our forward income. Our drips alone were double that! Couche-tard is a grower not a show’er though.
Financial Goals Update
Increase Dividends by $1,680.19 this year. (bringing our forward income from dividends to $8,329.13 a year)
- With New Purchases, Drips, and Dividend Raises we continued to grow the size of our dividend Portfolio. Total increased so far in 2021 is $281.28. 16.74% of our goal.
Etf Monthly Purchase of $250
- This month we added 9 more units of xaw etf.
- Questrade* is great because it offers free etf trades and cheaper stock trading options than most Canadian brokers. $250.00 a month would kill us if we needed to pay high trading fees.
- * Note the questrade link is a affiliate link and at no additional cost to you, I would get a little payment if you were to sign up. You could get $50 in free trades by using my link though.
